About Me!!! Blog Post 1

All About Kia

Hello, my name is Kia Hunter and I reside in Mobile, Al. I am a little unsure of what my major interests are. I would like to be an elementary school teacher, but I would like to venture outside of the classroom and maybe become a guidance counselor, reading specialist, or speech pathologists. I obtained my associate's degree from Bishop State Community College, I then transferred to Auburn University for one semester.  Due to issues beyond my control I returned to Mobile and I enrolled in the University of South Alabama.
My hobbies include talking on the phone, talking period I just love to talk! I am not a morning person which is not great seeing that I want to enter into the world of education where my days start at six or seven in the morning! I like to cook a little bit for my family, which consists of my mom, Ivory, and little sister, Gecor. I chose to enter the education field because I want to make a difference in people’s lives. I love to see my former teachers who really showed an interest in me and made a difference in my life. I want to influence children and help mold them into great men and women in society and what better way to do that than by becoming an educator.

Dr. Pausch's Time Management

Dr. Pausch’s video on time management was very helpful and true. I learned that the majority of the topics he discussed did apply to me. I am very poor with time management. The statement he made, “Failing to plan, is planning to fail” was a pretty accurate statement. How can a person know what they will do in life if they do not have a solid or somewhat game plan? I also liked the suggestion of having to do lists just because I am a poor planner and I can be very forgetful.

  1. Hi Kia,
My name is Erica Roush. I am an Ele/SpEd major. We are classmates in EDM310 this semester. I see we have a few things in common. I also want to make a difference in people's lives and I'm not the best with time management either. I'm not sure how old you are but I assume you are in your early 20's since you finished your bachelor's already. I went to U of Mobile after I graduated high school in 1994, yes I'm old!, but due to circumstances- I got pregnant- I didn't finish. I got married and we now have 3 children. I want to be an example to them and help my family financially so here I am. I think it shows great character for you to not give up on your education. Keep at it and whether you know exactly what you will end up doing you are building knowledge and experience along the way, two things that will follow you where ever you go. You are ahead of the game compared to me, I wish so badly I would have stayed and finished my degree. I would be able to do so much more for my children, not to mention my retirement!
With your outgoing personality and strong desire to make a positive difference in the world you are sure to do great no matter what decision you make.Good Luck, -Erica Roush

    1. Erica we indeed have a lot in common! Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and by the way you are nowhere near old. I don't think it matters when you start as long as you complete what you have started. My grandmother always told me that once you obtain your education no one can take that away from you. I think the fact that you started after having a family shows how determined and well-grounded you are. Keep up the good work it really motivates me!!!
